Taking care of Dry Eye

When allergy season hits, most of us will typically head for the hills and hide inside to stay away from the pollen and allergens that make us all miserable from time to time. For those who suffer from dry eye due to allergies or just the outside air, there are plenty of treatment options available to you that you can choose. Some of these treatments are very basic, while others may cost you a trip or two to see a specialist. Taking care of dry eye can be incredibly simple with these helpful remedies.

Eye Drops

Most of us use eye drops on a daily basis simply to keep dirt and grime out of the eye. When you suffer from dry eye, whether it just may be a one time occurrence or an everyday thing, eye drops will help to create those tears that your tear ducts may not be able to produce. They are incredibly inexpensive, at less than $5 per bottle, and you can use them as much as you require. Of course if the problem persists, it may be time to find another way of taking care of dry eye.

Vitamins

The fatty layer within your eye which is commonly called the lipid may be missing those fatty acids that it needs to produce tears. If you take omega-6 fatty acids and vitamins such as vitamin A you should start to see some great results. These are inexpensive ways that will allow you to fix the tear ducts naturally so that you can get rid of those dry eyes. You can also just munch down on a few carrots, yams or sweet potatoes.

Water

Believe it or not, you may need a little bit of water in order to produce tears, and the other liquids that make up eye moisture. On top of the fatty layer that you have in your eye, you also have a water layer. This layer is called the aqueous layer and when you drink more water you may be helping to keep it moist and healthy. Water in general has been proven to have many benefits that our body needs everyday.

Prevention

If you want to prevent dry eye altogether then make sure that you are blinking on a regular basis. In order for our eyes to remain clean and moist we need to be blinking throughout the day. Avoid places where there is a lot of smog or just pollution in the air. This can easily make your dry eyes swell up and make things even more difficult. Carry around a bottle of eye drops where you go so that you have what you need in case you run into another dry eye problem. Those with chronic dry eye may need to see an eye specialist in order to get further medication or help. If you cannot figure out what is causing your dry eye, then why not check the back of your medications. Antihistamines and decongestants are well known for causing dry eye.
