Retinal Diseases

Healthy RetinaThe retina is a thin layer of tissue lining the back of the eye that contains millions of light-sensitive nerve cells. Without proper diagnosis and treatment, retinal diseases can threaten your sight. At Sealy Eye Center, our physicians are experts in the care and treatment of retinal diseases. Take the first step in protecting your vision. Call our office today for a consultation at , or request an appointment online.

Some of the more common retinal diseases that we treat are:

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a common eye disease that is associated with aging. This condition can destroy sharp central vision. The best defense against vision loss is early detection. Treatments can include medication, laser therapy, or photodynamic therapy.

Diabetic Retinopathy

A leading cause of blindness in the U.S., diabetic retinopathy is damage to the blood vessels in the retina caused by diabetes. This condition affects up to 80% of people who have diabetes for 10 years or more. Early detection and treatment is the best way to avoid vision loss.

Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment is a medical emergency in which the retina peels away from its underlying layer of support tissue. Most cases can be successfully repaired with surgery. If left untreated, a detached retina can cause blurred vision and permanent vision loss.
